Description
For auction is a wonderful piece of art pottery made by the Fulper Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The item is a Jug or Pitcher with an applied handle. The jug is an impressive size and stands 10 3/8" tall and is approximately 8 1/8" wide outside handlemeasurement
. The foot has a diameter of 3 3/4".
This
piece of art pottery displays a Jug or Pitcher form with a braided style applied handle. The vase has outstanding glaze combinations of a
Leopard
skin green crystalline glaze along with a mocha brown and cream gloss glaze. The Leopard skin glaze is concentrated on the lower 2/3 of the vase with the other glaze combination being applied to the handle and upper 1/3.
The Jug/Pitcher is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There are some pin pops in the glaze but nothing too obtrusive. The jug is marked on the underside bottom with Fulper's incised racetrack signature mark. This would date this jug to have been made circa 1916-1922. This dating mark is often found on Fulper's better pieces. This Jug/Pitcher is known as shape number 540 in the Fulper catalog pages. In the
catalog
it was simply called a Jug.
The pitcher is quite heavy for its size. It weighs 4 lbs 1 oz before packing.
This is a wonderful example of this form and glaze from Fulper. I'm sure the buyer will not be disappointed with their purchase. It would look outstanding on that Stickley, Mission, arts and crafts style bookcase.
