    Description

    Very good condition plate that was made prior to 1880 based on the back stamp which has no sphinx depicted-see photo.
    Maastricht, Holland, was the city where Petrus Regout established the De Sphinx aka Royal Sphinx pottery in 1827. De Sphinx operated under the name Petrus Regout & Co. until 1899. The firm was noted for its transfer-printed scenes.
